New Learning Garden

Attendees are encouraged to explore the newly completed Learning Garden, an expansion of the previous Vegetable Garden. Spanning six years of planning, the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation and Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association worked with the Disabled Independent Gardeners Association to develop a space that would be truly accessible and facilitate interactive learning.

With just under 14,000 square feet of renovated space, the Learning Garden features a Garden Lab with eight raised planters, a central demonstration bed and seating for outdoor programming. Visitors can discover plants used for taco fillings or on pizza, herbs used in teas and even flowers for pressing dyes. New interpretive signs support learning on topics like sustainable water use and easy-to-grow edible plants. This is the Garden’s first major installation in more than a decade and represents a significant investment in accessible, interactive education.
