by Alexis

Word Vancouver, Western Canada’s largest free literary festival, celebrates over 30 years of literary excellence and storytelling in Vancouver with nearly 40 events for readers and writers from September 14 to 20, 2025.

Word Vancouver Literary Festival

  • When: September 14 to 20, 2025
  • Where: Various venues across Vancouver
    • Main event held at UBC Robson Square on Saturday, September 20
  • Admission: Free!

Festival-goers can take part by chatting with other attendees about their most recent book club readings, exploring exhibitors, listening to readings, attending panels, or participating in a workshop — for free! Taking inspiration from the diversity of Canadian authors, all festival events rise to the challenge of embracing the vibrancy of stories and experiences for all people.

This year’s lineup has something for everyone including a Children’s Tent, a guest curators room with Kayla MacInnis Guest Indigenous Curator, and Candie Tanaka, Guest LGBTQIA2S+ Curator, a Poetry Tent, a live podcast recording, online editing sessions, and dedicated Silent Writing Room for those who need a quiet space to process the state of the world through writing. Find all of the Word Vancouver 2025 events online.

Special note: A dear friend of the blog will be involved in the Muriel’s Journey Poetry Prize event on September 14th. It’s free to attend (online) but registration is required.

As a registered charity, Word Vancouver is always looking for people who have the means and desire to build a strong community of storykeepers and tellers across the city via monetary means. This year that includes a 50/50 raffle that could lead to the winner walking away with up to $10,000. Raffle tickets can be purchased online. You can also support Word Vancouver in the upcoming online silent auction including donations from Susan Musgrave which includes a stay at Copper Beach House B&B with a flight from Pacific Coastal Airways; tickets to iconic Vancouver destinations like The Vancouver Museum, Vancouver Art Gallery, and Capilano Suspension Bridge; and gift certificates to local businesses.

About Word Vancouver

The Vancouver Book and Magazine Fair Society incorporated in 1995 and produced the first “Word On The Street Vancouver” festival that year. Held at the then newly built Vancouver Public Library, it featured 60 exhibitors and attracted 18,000 festival-goers. In 2013, it rebranded to Word Vancouver. Since that inaugural Festival, the Society has maintained consistent growth year after year, attracting increasing numbers of visitors from across British Columbia and Canada, making it a primary event in Western Canada’s literacy and literary community.
