Vancouver, A Year in Photos 2024
byI can’t believe we saw the Northern Lights not once in the city, but three times in 2024! I started posting my “Today in Vancouver” photography on social media a few years ago and I thought it was about time I shared some on the blog as well. These photos are all taken with my iPhone (14 Pro Max) and have been shared on Facebook, Threads, Bluesky, and X throughout the year, reaching almost two million people in the process. For me, I simply enjoy sharing moments captured around my city — from the spectacular, to the mundane. I’ve had a lovely time capturing and curating these over the last year, I hope you enjoy:
Vancouver, A Year in Photos 2024
January
Some snowy day and a winter sunrise
More popular content in January was of the sea lions who made Coal Harbour their home for several weeks last winter.
February
March
More Seawall sunrises (they’re at such a reasonable hour at this time of year), and the emergence of blossoms.
April
May
In May, I saw the Aurora Borealis from Downtown Vancouver for the first time in my life. It appeared again in September and October.
June
July
Italy’s Frecce Tricolori jets flew over Downtown Vancouver, much to the surprise of many.
August
Someone in the comments on Facebook tried to tell me this photo I took from Cambie and Broadway was Calgary. That was a hoot!
September
I sat on the beach for hours and watched the Northern Lights dance around the mountains, and in the sky above the city.
October
For the Northern Lights this time, Laura and I went into Stanley Park so that we could try getting some city features (like the lighthouse or Lions Gate Bridge) in our shots.
November
Autumn colours, the Asperitas cloud formations above the city, and the start of the Swift-ification of Downtown Vancouver. This was the most popular month for my photography on all platforms.
December
Every year when I do my “Instagram Top Nine” all of the most engaged photos are from October to December. My goal this year is to knock it out of the park with my spring and summer photography. More cherry blossoms, beaches and palm trees (yes, in Vancouver), and event coverage. Of course, another round of Northern Lights would also be welcome, at any time of year.
