Workout for Women’s Day 2024
byWorkout for Women’s Day is back for its 6th year, presenting dozens of by-donation classes and sessions in support of great causes from March 2 to 8, 2024.
Workout for Women’s Day
Here’s how it works:
- Donate to the cause of your choice (consider what you’d spend on a drop-in class, or donate what you can). The beneficiaries this year are:
- Check the schedule and find workout classes you’d like to participate in. They have everything from Aerial Yoga, Intro to Krav Maga, All-Levels Jiu-Jitsu, to Spinning Class and so much more.
- Register for your class(ess) and you’re good to go!
Organizers Shana Alexander, Andi Davis, and Danya Rogen want to raise awareness for organizations and causes that support all self-identifying girls and women, and gender expansive people, in the hopes of creating greater community connections now and in the future, and promote inclusion, diversity and equity in movement settings. For participants, they provide a space where all feel welcome and empowered to move in their own way.
“Moving your body is just good for everything,” says Rogen. “It’s good for your brain, it’s good for your body, it’s good for all round – there are no downfalls the way I see it. What I actually really love about this week is that there are so many ways to move and I hope that we can really attract those people who might be scared to do a kickboxing class, but a yin yoga class is something they feel is more accessible and right up their alley.” Rogen says a doctor she works with likes to say: “The best exercise that you do is the one that you do!“
Workout for Women’s Day is a coming together of local movement studios and instructors around International Women’s Day to offer public and private (corporate) classes for charities that support girls, women, and other people who experience gender discrimination. This grassroots, volunteer driven campaign, created and run by the Stronger Together Vancouver Team, has raised more than $145,000 in 5 years since it began in 2019!
