Queer as Funk 10 Year Anniversary

  • When: Friday, August 4, 2023 at 8:00pm
  • Where: Commodore Ballroom (868 Granville St, Vancouver)
  • Tickets: Available online now for $39.75 + fees

Queer As Funk will be joined by special guests Marcus Mosely (of The Sojourners) and Beau Wheeler.

For the last decade the band has been a transformative force within the 2SLGBTQI+ community, using their music as a catalyst for joy, acceptance, and social justice. The band intends to use the anniversary performance as an opportunity to gather the queer community and allies to lead with love, especially in the face of rising discrimination against trans and queer folks.

At its core, Queer As Funk was born from a desire to celebrate diversity, using music as a tool to spread that positivity throughout the community. As one of the few predominantly queer and non-binary bands in the province, their shows are not only dynamic and entertaining, but a powerful statement of pride and identity.

Throughout their ten-year history, Queer As Funk has been dedicated to visiting small communities to provide celebration and visibility to queer individuals looking to gather, connect, and strengthen their communities. They aim to inspire queer youth by offering themselves as models for living full, joyful lives as successful queer adults, and; as the band’s love for one another is palpable in performances, models for celebrating queer friendship, love, and chosen family.

Alongside their commitment to social justice, Queer As Funk has also earned a reputation as a powerful and entertaining band. Their tight horn arrangements, groovy rhythms, and powerful vocals have won over fans at music festivals and Pride events across Canada.

This anniversary celebration promises to be a night of love, joy, and powerful music, as the band showcases ten years of triumphant dedication to uplifting the 2SLGBTQI+ community. Follow the band on Facebook for more info and updates.

    Dear Miss604,

Always a fan of your content. One correction though – it is no more 2SLGBTQI+ but rather it has been updated to 4SLGBTQI+ to include the Biqueer and the asexuals communities into the fold to make it more inclusive. I recommend updating all your articles with the new community name which reflects the sign of our times.

    Yours Truly
    Richard, Surrey

    Hi Richard,
Thank you for this note. I use the terms and names as-provided by the groups who have sent in their event information or community news. I don’t update or change what they have chosen to provide me but I can certainly look into this and educate myself about the updates and the most inclusive names.
    Rebecca
