Zero Waste
With Vancity’s support, the PNE is working towards creating a zero waste Fair for the 15 days. This year, Vancity’s Zero-Waste Events initiative includes 50 waste diversion stations have been installed throughout fairgrounds to help PNE improve its waste reduction, recycling and composting activities. Throughout The Fair, each station will be staffed to help sort waste and share recycling tips.
At last year’s Vancity Member Day, a total of 74.3% of event waste was diverted from the landfill. That’s equivalent to nearly 300 garbage bags full of waste!

I recycle all my styrofoam trays now!
I focused on ware usage this Summer. I am trrying my best to remember that this source of life isn’t to be taken for granred.

I moved to a community where I can walk to almost everything.

I’ve become much more mindful of using what I have and not wasting or overbuying. We also bought an all electric vehicle this year, no more gas!!!!!
Started to compost and cut out plastic bags from my life!
I only do 4 loads of laundry per week to save water.
I always shut off the water while I’m soaping up in the shower.
I walk whenever I can – instead of taking the car!
Love to hang out laundry on the clothes line!
I take my own water bottle when I head out. Even places that say no outside food don’t complain about a regular water bottle & it helps me be more green.

We re use water bottles I walk 20 min every day from my house to school Monday to Friday wash clothes manually using just my hands and drying them by just hanging it outside my balcony were using bucket and deeper when taking a bath/shower my daughter uses cloth diapers

I always carry both a reusable bottle for water, as well as a insulated to-go mug for coffee.
We’ve been keeping a jug of cold water in the fridge to cut down on running the tap to get a cold drink.
We’ve been trying to keep energy usage at a minimum this summer: Opening the blinds and curtains rather than turning on lights during the day, drying our clothes on the line rather than using the dryer, and using the BBQ rather than our stove/oven.
Walking everywhere, to the grocery store and even to work.
We forgot to water our lawn for weeks! Does that count? 🙂
Re-cycle all my food wastes and i walk to work everyday!
I had a Backyard Green BBQ Party this summer, and did not forget the little things, like choosing organic condiments, reusable napkins instead of paper ones, e-vites versus mail invitations, homemade decorations over store-bought and filling pitchers of lemonade, and iced tea instead of buying huge quantities of personal sized beverage containers.
I separate out all my garbage, recyclables and food products to ensure I get them to the right places. It’s easier than I thought it would be!

We have sold our AC and now rely on just regular fans to decrease usage in the home, I’ve sold my car and have opted to riding my bike to work everyday it’s a double bonus, I’ve lost weight in the process…woot woot!

While living in Spain I became anti-air conditioning (even though it was 45 Celsius or more) because it was so expensive. Now I keep windows open, stay indoors during the hottest times of the day, wear thin fabrics, etc.

One way I have gone green is I have been reducing my consumption of meat.

Using less plastics!
I ride my bike to pick up my weekly (Community Supported Agriculture) Organic veggies…..at my local hub, and then I try to eat all parts of the veggies ie) stems in stir-fries, or smoothies…including leaves of the actual vegetable. Where I cannot use all parts, I make sure to compost. Whenever possible I share with friends so as not to waste as sometimes it is difficult to get through them all 🙂

In summer it’s so easy to walk and ride everywhere so I do! I also started a program ChopSwap where people can swap all their new or used disposable chopsticks for a pair of renewable ones. Education and awareness around one time disposables and waste is how I have spent my summer. Thank you!
