byConcession stands and food carts have come a long way at Playland and the PNE but you can always rely on the availability of the classic footlong hot dog.

Earlier this spring, the Pacific National Exhibition announced the passing of the ‘King of the Midway,’ legendary pitchman and carny, Jack Hunter. “Jack was a beloved member of the extended PNE family for 73 years, most well known as the colourful owner of the Foot Long Hot Dog booth, a popular concession at the annual Fair at the PNE. Jack got his start at the Fair in 1941, leading ponies in a pony ring when he was only 11 years old. Since then, he has done everything from working rides to selling his famous hotdogs.”
Jack took over a hotdog stand in 1957 and the rest is history. Just last year he passed over the reins of his Foot Long Hotdog booth to his son Jason.
