#WhatsTheLink: TransLink is the Link to Better Travel Choices
by#WhatsTheLink is a series about all that TransLink, Metro Vancouver’s transportation authority, is responsible for in the region. Learn more at Translink.ca/WTL and join the #WhatsTheLink conversation on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, The Buzzer Blog, and here of course!
For this last post in the #WhatsTheLink series, I’d like to revisit the subject matter of the last seven posts. Don’t worry, there’s no test or poll at the end of it, just a chance to win a 3-Zone FareCard! What do you have to do to win? Well, read on and you’ll find out.
#WhatsTheLink: TransLink is the Link to Better Travel Choices
Did you know that Kingsway is part of TransLink’s Major Roads Network? Yup, it contributes to the 2,300 lane Kilometres of major roads in Metro Vancouver, for which TransLink is responsible.
Besides roads, TransLink is also into bridges — five of them in fact! They are the Knight Street, Golden Ears, Pattullo, Westham Island and the Canada Line Pedestrian-Bicycle bridges. Every day, 200,000 crossings happen on those TransLink bridges over the Fraser River!
Most people know TransLink for public transportation. What many people don’t know is how well used our public transit is. In terms of numbers of riders, 418,000 people take TransLink transit every day in Metro Vancouver!
TransLink is also about cycling. Part of TransLink’s multimodal mandate is to help support the people making the 107,000 bike trips each day in Metro Vancouver. That includes making cycling easier and safer by opening the first secure bike room on the system this May!
Great transportation is as good as the planning behind it and around it. Transit has been part of shaping where people have lived and worked in Metro Vancouver for over 100 years. TransLink has helped shape sustainable communities by integrating with community planning throughout the region. With future Transit Oriented Developments in the works, TransLink is actively involved in carry on this legacy.
A Connected Transportation System
Being a multimodal organization in charge of public transportation, the Major Roads Network, five bridges and cycling infrastructure means TransLink can seamlessly connect all modes of transportation. But in order to do this well, you need a reliable transit system.
The public transit modes we provide are bus, SkyTrain, SeaBus and West Coast Express. All modes work hard to get you where you and your goods need to go.
The roads, public transit and infrastructure that TransLink helps to provide are integral to the economy of Metro Vancouver. TransLink manages major roads and helps to ease traffic congestion so that you can get the coffee, medical supplies and almost anything you can buy at a local store, hospital, school and more.
#WhatsTheLink Contest
We all get around the region in different ways. TransLink helps you get to where you’re going by helping out in four key ways: transit, cycling, walking and driving – What’s your favourite way of getting around?

I love taking the skytrain. Wish it was easier to get from Cloverdale.
Walking & transit. Get from A to B with getting in some exercise at the same time.
walking
Transit…except when I have to sit beside a smelly person 🙁
Bus&SkyTrain by far!
My favourite way of getting around the city is walking.
Love taking the Skytrain!
Well, it seems that I have come full circle almost back to childhood. I was so excited to get my licence at 16…then when I turned 20, I got a class 4 and drove a limo as to earn money for university. Now 30 years later, I much prefer to walk, take the Canada Line or ride my bike. I gave up driving completely, and it is a much healthier personal choice. 🙂
Honestly, getting to and from work I drive. The time difference is 1:15 vs 2:30 (return for both).
Otherwise, I prefer Transit or Walking if I’m by myself. Car Pooling works well as well.
Cycling!
Skytrain and walking

Walking
Transit – the skytrain is so fast.
Biking
I would say transit. Especially to work. Only two short bus rides with skytrain in between! Only takes 30 mins, about the same as driving.
For my daily commute, because I live in Vancouver and work in downtown Vancouver, and don’t mind a little walking (it’s good exercise), city buses work just fine.
I use transit all the time, mostly skytrain. Especially when heading to and from downtown.
Skytrain and cycling.
Walking!
We like to walk and take the bus.
cycling!
Definitely Transit especially the skytrain..it is fast, taking you from point a to b in matter of minutes 🙂
I like skytrain but i don’t like buses but transit is still my choice

A little bit of walking, transit, and car. Depends on the day and activities.
I like to take skytrain
Driving, although I do miss taking the skytrain and reading. I just can’t afford to have both a car insured and take transit, and since I have a car I drive to work.
Walking! Whenever I can do it, I do it.
Walking and transit
I like walking around Metro vancouver!
I would say biking and walking! Bus also will take you anywhere 🙂
Transit to work, definitely. I wish it could take me everywhere, but that’s not always possible with five kids, so we drive. I guess you could say with that many people we’re a carpool!
I take the Skytrain from Scott Road to the Granville Station, Monday to Friday. Then walk three blocks to my office. Same method for the last 18 years. It works for me.
I love biking in Vancouver. I love the bike lanes.
Skytrain
Walking and bus n sky train …
Cycling for leisure and using the busses and skytrain for work!
When I can I walk otherwise I use transit everywhere!
I actually love taking transit, but I am walking more that the weather is good.

I would have to say a combo: transit (skytrain) and walking.
I love taking Skytrain. So fast and easy, and I don’t have to worry about finding parking

I don’t drive so I bus and skytrain everywhere…love to win this prize!!!
Biking and buses are what I use to get around.
Using the skytrain is my favourite way of transport within the city.
I’d say walking if I can but if not then it’s transit but really really wish it would be more reliable! Cuz I think good transit is so important in a city!
Walking to enjoy the day…transit to get around

Walking, bus & Skytrain!
Walking is such an amazing way to see this city, but with an ankle injury transit has been the way to go for me and I am grateful for the amazing transit network we have.
Definitely walking and transit. Great exercise and you don’t have to worry about increasing gas prices in Vancouver!
right now i drive but would love the opportunity to check out transit to see if its a viable option with my current job
Walk when I am able. Bus if not
Unable to bus or transit to work. But bike and walk when ever possible

SkyTrain! Makes it so easy to get around the city.
Cycling, and/or Skytrain (not so much the rest of transit)
Transit,.. and looking forward to some of the improvements.
Transit
I drive to and from where I need to go as I find it most convenient. I’m new to Langley and there is no skytrain out here, but if I had the opportunity to try out the bus systems, I might feel differently about getting around on transit with the buses.
Transit–especially the skytrain

Call me crazy, but I actually love taking transit, (bus/skytrain). It is like being treated to live theatre, … and it is convenient, and usually faster than driving and trying to find parking.

Love the Skytrain. It is so easy to get to downtown from Richmond.
Skytrain and 99 bus:)
