Surrey Youth Film Competition

The Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society is currently hosting a film contest which is open only to local youth. Ages 12 to to 24 are invited to submit a 30 to 60 second film that shows what “Everyone Has a Home” means to them.

One in four of us know someone who is currently or who has been homeless. They are men, women, families with children, youth and seniors – they are a part of our community and our lives. Job insecurity, increasing cost of living, diminished support systems, and lack of affordable housing—things that affect all of us – they add up. For a lot of people, homelessness is just a few paycheques away. So, what do the words, “Everyone Has a Home” mean to you?

Submissions are accepted now until May 17, 2013. There will be a $500 grand prize in two age categories: 12 to 18 and 19 to 24. The entry form is available online along with submission guidelines, a release form, and film production resources.

The Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society aims to engage youth as it utilizes strategic leadership to raise, manage, and distribute funds to support programs, projects and initiatives to make a difference in the lives of people who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness in Surrey.
