Tango Meets Jazz at the Chan Centre

The Chan Centre will be hosting legendary tango pianist Pablo Ziegler with violinist Regina Carter on February 16, 2013.

The Latin Grammy Award-winning pianist is coming to Vancouver for the first time in decades to perform an intoxicating fusion of tango and jazz, originally performed in New York’s legendary Jazz Standard club. There is no tour, just this performance of legendary proportions, and it’s only happening in Vancouver at the Chan Centre. Ziegler’s quartet will share the stage with American violinist Regina Carter as they fuse tango and jazz.

“Pablo Ziegler is the last surviving member of Astor Piazzolla’s tango quintet; an ensemble that almost single-handedly transformed tango music from something that accompanies dance to its own fully realized musical form,” says Joyce Hinton, CoManaging Director of the Chan Centre. “In the two decades since Piazzolla’s passing, Ziegler has taken up the torch and furthered this vision. Through his compositions, collaborations, and rich integration of jazz, he has brought tango to
new levels of refinement and sophistication.”

Tickets are now on sale for the performance on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 8:00pm and they range from $36 to $72 (taxes and/or additional fees may apply). Purchase your tickets online via Ticketmaster or in person at the Chan Centre box office.
