Free for BC Day Long Weekend 2012

The BC Day long weekend is coming up and local attractions are getting in the spirit of celebrating our province. Here are just few things you can do for free from August 3rd to August 6th, 2012:

Vancouver Pride Parade 2011

Wooden Coaster at Playland
PNE Playland announced that they will be offered free rides on their iconic wooden roller coaster from 6:00am to 9:00am on Friday, August 3rd. Public can enter through Gate 12 near Pacific Adventure Golf.

Ballroom Dancing Robson Square
Friday means free ballroom dancing and lessons at Robson Square. Join the fun on August 3rd and kick off the long weekend in style.

Canada Fest at Canada Place
Canada Place’s celebration of all things Canadian is happening Saturday, August 4th with music, entertainment, activities, demonstrations, a Queen impersonator, Afternoon Tea, and more.

Powell Street Festival
The 36th annual Powell Street Festival will take place in Oppenheimer Park August 4th and 5th.

Honda Celebration of Light
The final night of the Honda Celebration of Light fireworks is Saturday, August 4th off the shores of English Bay as Italy wraps up this year’s festivities.

Outdoor Movie in Holland Park
Surrey’s free outdoor movie series begins Saturday, August 4th with the screening of Toy Story: 3.

Vancouver Pride Festival and Parade
The Vancouver Pride Parade will run downtown, along Robson, Denman and Beach on Sunday, August 5th from 12:00pm until about 3:00pm. Hundreds of thousands of locals and international visitors take part in this event that is filled with music, dancing, laughter, and a whole lot of fun.

North Shore Concerts
In North Vancouver you can stop by Concerts in the Square at Shipbuilders’ Square at the Shipyards, located beside Lonsdale Quay along the City’s waterfront. Right over at the Lonsdale Quay you can also catch SummerFest performances from Kyprios (August 5) and Acres of Lions (August 6).

BC Sports Hall of Fame
On BC Day, Monday, August 6th kids get in free at the BC Sports Hall of Fame. Enter through Gate “A” at BC Place. It’s open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

Burnaby Village Museum
Holiday Monday will also see free gate admission at the Burnaby Village Museum. Carousel rides will be just $2.30 from 11:00am to 4:30pm.

Squamish Days Festival
The Squamish Logger Sports Festival is free for the whole family with only a few ticketed events. It runs from Thursday, August 2nd until Monday, August 6th up in lovely Squamish, BC – just a quick drive up the Sea to Sky.

You can also enjoy weekly events like Free Take Off Fridays at YVR and Free Ballroom Dancing at Robson Square. Stay tuned this week for my full August event listings for Metro Vancouver.

    Vancouver, BC – Playland at the PNE is showing its BC Day spirit by inviting members of the public to ride the iconic Wooden Roller Coaster free of charge from 6:00am to 9:00am on Friday, August 3rd.

    Ride enthusiasts and all those looking for a fun way to kick off the BC Day long weekend are encouraged to take a ride on one of BC’s most recognizable landmarks.

    Playland’s signature attraction, the world famous Wooden Roller Coaster was built in 1958. It has a maximum drop height of 20 metres (75 feet) and reaches speeds of up to 76 km/hour.

    EVENT: Free Wooden Coaster Rides to Celebrate BC Day
    DATE: Friday, August 3rd
