YEG Wood Sunglasses Giveaway
byI often receive emails through my contact form about new products and services but this is only the second time a message has been about sunglasses. Not limiting my contest to purely big-brand items, I am pleased to partner with YEG Wood for a unique giveaway.
YEG Wood, based out of Edmonton, makes wooden apparel such as watches, iPhone cases, and sunglasses. Sustainably made from Cherrywood, their eco-chic TreeFarers style is based on the classis Ray-Ban Wayfarer. The hinges are spring-loaded so they can bend in or out and the lenses have a medium tint, rated UV400.
They have offered up a pair of wooden sunglasses to one lucky reader of mine. The winner can choose between the TreeFarer in Cherry, the TreeFarer in Rust, or the Porschler in Marble — all valued at $119.
To enter to win, leave a comment on this post naming your favourite tree species or favourite specific tree (as we’re sticking with a wooden theme). My favourite tree is in Stanley Park, just up the Third Beach Trail, although it was a victim of the windstorm five years ago.
You can also enter by posting the following on Twitter:
I will draw one winner at random from all entries on at 10:00am on December 27, 2011. If you’re in Edmonton, you can check out YEG Wood’s official launch party this Saturday as well.
Update The YEG Wood folks would like to extend a discount to all Miss604.com readers as well. The code is valid until January 15, 2012 and will take $20 off the purchase of sunglasses. Here’s how to use it on the website:
Select your glasses and click “Add To Cart”.
Click “Checkout”
In Step 1 of 2, enter all the pertinent info; then click “Continue to Next Step”
In Step 2 of 2, under Discounts enter “Miss604GetsWoodGlasses” and then click “Apply”
The price will be adjusted, and then you are all clear to complete your transaction.
With Standard Shipping, glasses will arrive in 4 – 5 days; with Super Fast Christmas Shipping, they will arrive in 2.
Update The winner is @TanyaFanya!

Oh my god. I’ve always wanted wood-framed sunglasses. And based out of Edmo! Bonus.
Favorite tree? Aspen. Definitely.
Cedar, it smells so good!
I love magnolia trees, particularly in the Westend
Willows are my fave!
The Arbutus tree outside the Empress hotel in Victoria, BC

My favourite tree is the huge one at Cathedral Grove on Vancouver Island
My favorite tree is the Hollow tree at Stanley park! It’s been looking great since the refurbishment! My favorite type of tree is an Acer ‘sangu kako’ also known as a Coral Bark Maple. It has awesome pink barks that look amazing this time of year!
These are beautiful! Never heard of it but would definitely love a pair!
Oops my favourite trees are definitely willows!
My favourite wood is birch. I like when the bark is peeling off the trunk and you can see the new bark underneath. And I love the art made with birch bark.
I’m going to have to go with the big willow tree at 2nd beach (near the outdoor pool). Beautiful, atmospheric and home to a whole murder o’ crows…
Being from northern Ontario, my heart is with the birch tree…Palm trees are cool too, especially when visitors see them! OMG! Vancouver has palm trees!!
My favourite trees are oak trees. I love how big they grow and they are good for climbing!
I would go with the beautiful Arbutus tree with it beautiful red bark. Perfect pair with Vancouver’s weather, the beautiful red darkens with the rain.
red cedar
Being a good ol’ Canadian girl (who loves maple syrup! But, really, who doesn’t?) I have to say maple trees! They’re also so pretty in autumn!.
Arbutus. It rises to whatever occasion: clinging to craggy rocks or soaring above the canopy. And the color! We need to find some blown-down arbutus to make a limited run of glasses out of 😉
Weeping willows! We’re so lucky – we’ve got an enormous one in our backyard.
Weeping willows, I used to climb them as a kid.
My favourite tree is a cedar I used to sit in at outside of my school in Toronto. it’s base formed a wooden seat where I could dangle my feet above a lush ravine.
I love cedar trees. There is one just under our apartment and the most amazing fragrance drifts up to the apartment in the summer.
Tis the season so my vote is for Christmas trees, or good old fashioned pine trees.
My favourite tree is the Blue Spruce(s) that were planted for each of my daughters when they were born! Still at a park in Edmonton (ironically enough!) and still growing strong! Second favourite wood is cedar… the smell will always remind me of my Grandparents!
Maple. Not only does it have amazing fall colours but also gives us Maple Syrup!
I love willow trees!
My favourite is the Arbutus. In fact, my fiance just proposed with a ring box he carved from ome’s branch! Wood sunglasses would totally match….

I have always loved Weeping Willows. Those sunglasses are super cool.
There is a tree near my moms house that was put up one day when I was younger.
My brothers and I always used to run into the woods behind an empty lot and there was an empty space that we would play in. One day we ran back there and a tree was planted. It wasn’t like any other tree, it was a pale green, almost white in colour. I never found out what the tree was (or where it came from) but I always thought fondly of it because it brings back great memories of playing with my brothers.
Cedar trees by far!
One of the most memoriable trees is a 200 year old fig tree that I saw near Caines. The grandpa tree gives off this Santa Clause feel. It was a very special tree.
I love Arbutus trees! I’m from the East and hadn’t laid eyes on one until 7 years ago when I moved to BC. Beautiful trees, beautiful glasses, great company!
Cedar trees, because of their magnificant scent!

I love sequoia trees. So amazingly beautiful!
A 400 or so year old western red cedar that I’ve visited for about 20 years now. It’s shaped a little corner of second growth into a beautiful marsh with ferns, a yew, and younger cedars and firs as neighbors.
Hummm…not easy…cedar for their smell….oak for their strenght …sugar maple for their colours and yummyness and arbutus for their funky looks….I could go on but I won t!

Have always adored cedar trees 🙂
I love sequoia trees – they are so big!
My love for trees and involvement in conservation earned me a reputation amongst family and friends as a “tree hugger” years ago so this is a tough question. The tree that sparked my interest in the environment is this beautiful willow tree along the lake shore in the Okanagan but my favourite is definitely the Sequoia!
My fave tree is the arbutus…all around Cortes Island. Each one looks like a beautiful modern dancer perched on a rocky cliff.
My favourite tree is in Ontario. I planted an apple seed when I was 5 and now that tree has become something substantial.
I make sure to go and see it when I am home. Still waiting for the year I get to eat my first apple.
Love cedar trees! There are a few huge ones I love to visit near Squamish Valley Road.

My favorite is the Redwood Tree. I still remember the trip my parents took us on in the 1970’s to the Trees Of Mystery in Klamath California. The Redwood trees stood as tall as 375 feet and they grew up up to 20 feet in diameter. They are the largest living thing on earth! They are really something to see!
Cedar, it reminds me of my grandparents house on the beach.

Doesn’t everyone love PALM TREES?!?
I like spruce because it smells so nice.
Oh Maple tree….where to begin?
You provide sticky, sugary syrup for drizzling upon our pancakes turning a flat bland bread into a really special morning treat. You provide much needed (and appreciated) shade on the hottest of days and we can hang tire swings from you to swoop around over the ground and fly through the long days of childhood. You look like you’re on fire with your brilliant red and orange leaves in the fall. You’re the first tree around to drop leaves in the ground much to the delight of all the neighborhood kids. Maple is the mother of all trees 🙂
I love all trees but in particular willow trees and Cherry trees.
