I think it is great to keep kids active in a sport they enjoy! It keeps them active, provides exercise, teaches them skills and they can meet new friends 🙂
One of my favourite sports as a child that I was involved with was soccer!
There are countless benefits for doing sports, especially for growing kids. Not only will they have fun, but they will live a healthy lifestyle too.
I attribute much of my leadership skills and positive self image to all the sports I played as a child. Not only that, but it kept me healthy and off the streets 🙂
My fondest childhood sports memory would have to be getting up early before school to play ice hockey at Kerrisdale Arena with my brother.
Sports for kids because it gets them out of the house and socialize!
I’m definitely putting my kids in sports (when we have them) also to keep them from getting pudgy like me!
I remember the days I used to play soccer in Victoria when we lived there. I LOVED it, even though I hate running. Then when I came to the mainland (in grade 4) my couch was an ass and made me hate playing so I haven’t really played on a team for soccer since.
Physical activity is important in a child’s daily routine to prevent obesity and cardiovascular diseases in the long run.
Some of my fondest childhood memories were made on the running track.
It is important for kids to be involved in sports to keep them healthy physically. Sports also teaches great life lessons in co-operation and good sportsmanship.(how to win and lose graciously!) As a soccer mom I have enjoyed meeting the other parents on the sidelines as I cheer on ALL the children playing.
My fondest childhood sports memory was Fun Day on the last day of school. We’d play all kinds of games like capture the flag, rollerball, kickball, and then cap the day off with ice cream.
Sports give kids confidence, especially important when they have a poor support system
Relay races were a blast. I wonder if they still have those in school?
I think my fondest memory was being a part of my elementary school’s basketball team. I was far from the “star” of the team, but it was to feel like I was a part of something.
It is SO important for kids to be involved in sports of ANY kids, from soccer to golf, track and field to tae kwan do. Participating in sports teaches kids fun ways to be and stay healthy, how to work together and encourages an all over healthy lifestyles while keeping them active and away from video games, etc.
I think it’s a great idea to keep kids active in sports and hopefully in an activity they really enjoy! It keeps them active through exercise, teaches them skills, they can meet new friends and I think it helps them learn how to be a good sport and discipline.
Kids in sports is the first step to healthy choices and lifestyle!
It is important because they need to know it is for their health and they need to have fun!
On behalf of KidSport, a huge thank you to the great folks at Triple Os for the generous support of kids getting off the sidelines and into the game.

Being the only girl who could hit a baseball farther than the boys was my fondest memory. Especially because my brother still remembers it forty years later! Then being called in to find out we were going to the White Spot at Park Royal where it was a treat to have the tray across the back seat! Best memories ever!
I remember those childhood days learning to play ping-pong with my dad and grandfather in our cramped living room. Two of the greatest players I know! Great memories.

Getting kids more active in sports is 100x better than sitting in front of the TV playing video games.

It is important for children to develop of love of playing sports while they are young so that they carry this attitude for activity through for the rest of their lives.
My fondest memories of childhood sports are from my elementary school’s annual “Fun Day.” The teams were made with one child from each grade level on every team. The grade six kids were the captains. Each year the team names followed a different theme, such as types of dinosaurs. I remember having a total blast playing the games and running races.
My fondest memory is playing baseball at the empty lot on the corner of our street. All the kids from around the area met there at the lot on weekends and summer holidays to play baseball together. We had so much fun!
I think sports are very important in helping build a child’s leadership skills and character. Sports helped me gain confidence as a child that I would not have otherwise had.
My fondest memory is the coach of my synchronized swimming team. She really went out of her way to foster a positive and healthy environment for a group of young teenage girls, talking to us about boby image, nutrition, and goal setting. i owe her a big thank you for how I turned out!
This isn’t necessarily fond, but it goes to show how important sports was even to me, a kid who wasn’t particularly “athletic” but was a competitive dancer and loved hiking and shooting hoops with her dad.
In Grade 3, I missed Sports Day because I had chicken pox. I was so upset and I will never forget how I felt that day and the fact that I missed Sports Day in Grade 3!
I’ve retweeted this. hopefully everyone else has retweeted as well as that is what gets donations. Probably my favourite childhood sport memory was scoring 3 goals in an elementary school soccer game. I the overall number we scored was like 5.

As a kid, my dad put me into many different sports so I could try them out and decide which one I liked the best. I was involved in figure skating, gymanstics, and karate. I loved the fact that I got to try out different types of sports because once I got to high school, I finally found what I loved to play – basketball, volleyball and netball!
I was a Blue Jacket at the Olympics & Paralympic & got to see up close the power of sport. It inspires ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. It lifts countries up and for one small moment in time unites the world as one human family. It changes lives.

Sports help kids stay active and build self-esteem.
I think it is important for kids to be involved in sports due to the increase in obesity in children. It is also a way for kids to learn sportsmanship and how to be a team member. It isn’t important that you win but more important about how you played and whether you tried.
