New Drinking Fountains in Vancouver
byJust the other day my family was discussing the fact that there is a lack of functioning water fountains in public spaces in Vancouver. Browsing the City’s website this morning I found a notice about new portable water fountains that have been put in place to help us all beat the heat this summer.
The temporary water fountain locations are:
As you can see from this map provided in the City’s Open Data set, there are already several fountains throughout the city.
Perhaps we don’t notice them as much nowadays but it’s good to know they are there. Remember to stay hydrated this summer even if the sun isn’t shining through the clouds.
Update Tyler Ingram snapped a photo of the portable fountains:

Great post, Rebecca!
From what my contacts at Metro Vancouver told me, they were preparing to release an iPhone app that will show you all the drinking water fountains in the city. I think the City of Vancouver might have made use of Tylor Sherman’s dataset (http://water.tylorsherman.com/)
As someone who does water research, while I find the map very useful (just during Pride we stopped at various water fountains in the West End, even the temporary ones), I would need data on water consumption patterns!
Hugs,
Raul
@Raul Yes, that’s the data set that I linked to and that is displayed in that map 😉
I think I find more public water available for pets than I do for humans sometimes!
Is this what you’re talking about Rebecca? http://bit.ly/bVWqeS
Here’s another one, but this one with a bit more of a “rudimentary” style at Commercial Drive @ Broadway http://twitpic.com/2cwtvx
