Review: Froyoswirl Frozen Yogurt
byBefore I had even heard of this “fresh fruit and frozen yogurt” phenomenon I received an email from the owners of Froyoswirl on Homer Street, inviting me to come and try their frozen yogurt creations. I didn’t have the chance to head in until today, and in the meantime I totally jumped on board with the frozen yogurt bandwagon thanks to the good folks at Qoola.
This afternoon I met with Irene, the enterprising and delightful proprietor of Froyoswirl. Their shop on Homer (near Robson) has been open since November and they enjoy regular traffic even during these colder months, and I can see why.
I had the chance to taste their frozen yogurt, which comes in one flavour, along with my choice topping of fresh fruit (raspberries, blackberries and blueberries). The consistency was very smooth and creamy with little bitterness — and I don’t know where these places get their berries but the fruit was huge and scrumptious.
I also tried their yogurt parfait note: until this day I had never tried yogurt while not in a frozen form so this was definitely a treat (and an adventure). Honestly, I would previously have plugged my nose if anyone asked me to try plain yogurt but this looked too good not to try… and I ended up eating the entire thing.
The vanilla yogurt was absolutely delicious and was combined with crunchy granola and berries, making for the perfect “on the go” snack. I haven’t had this much calcium or fruit intake in a very long time and would seriously consider this as a breakfast option if I lived or worked close by.
Froyoswirl was also filled with the sweet aroma of fresh waffles when I arrived so I had a sampling of their whole wheat waffle topped with strawberries and some chocolate drizzle.
As I said, I’m a huge fan of the frozen yogurt and fresh fruit craze (it’s Vancouver’s new gelato) and I’m glad that I have had the chance to experience such well-run establishments and even get myself eating well because of it. The next step is for John to try out one of their smoothies as well.
You can find Froyoswirl at 820 Homer street as well as online and (soon to be active) on Twitter.
You can try it for yourself by stopping by Froyoswirl from now until the end of the February and mention Twitter or Miss604 and receive a ‘Buy One Get On Free’ deal on their frozen yogurt.
Disclosure: This is not a paid review, feel free to browse more of my reviews or even my thoughts on Qoola Fruit + Yogurt, which is across town.

Yum I love frozen yogurt! I love yogurt too. I just haven’t tried any of these new stores popuping up.
Reminds me I used to make myself yogurt parfaits too 🙂 Sooo yummy!
You had never eaten non-frozen Yogurt before? Wow – mind you, this comes from the guy who goes by the mantra “if it comes from the sea, it’s not for me.”
But seeing as you like frozen yogurt, if you ever find yourself in Steveston you should head to Timothy’s on the Steveston Pier (or when the season presents itself – down at Garry Point Park).
I have to say, I was a bit disappointed when I tried Froyo swirl and Blueberry (Pinkberry, Blueberry..shouldn’t there be legal ramifications?). I actually felt sick after trying the yogurt and waffles. I was wondering why the froyo swirl worker was laughing when she was making the waffles, as if she knew what horrors I was going to face/eat. MAYBE I’ll stop by again to try to parfait.
My GF tried Qoola (weird name) when we were in Denman and raved how it was actually better than Pinkberry/Red mango/Yogurtland in Cali. Great yogurt, waffles, healthy blah blah blah.
Unfortunately, I never got to try it. Scarred from my froyo experience at bland blueberry and sickly froyo swirl..I went to kintaro ramen instead.
Thanks for the tip on FROYO! I live in Yaletown and walk up to the library quite often, so thought I would give it a try. MMMmmm! The review above is surprising to me, as this was by far the BEST froyo I have ever tasted. The fruit was fresh and the yogurt has some real texture. I tried Qoola a couple of weeks ago, but thought it was a bit like eating yogurt soup…which is a bit weird.
Really Jessica? Maybe it was just bad that day. Well I’m flying back to Vancouver next week for another day trip and I may give it another try.
