Pauline Johnson Memorial in Stanley Park
byDuring one of our most recent treks through a muddy Stanley Park we finally made it over to the Pauline Johnson memorial. [See: The Lions – The Two Sisters, Pauline Johnson Opera]
You can find the memorial between The Teahouse and Third Beach, just off the side of Stanley Park Drive.

It’s amazing what you don’t know when you don’t visit the park often enough!
I love this memorial. The elementary school I went to was called Pauline Johnson so I always knew about it growing up. She’s buried there, isn’t she?

I FIRST VISITED THE MONUMENT IN 1973 AND MY FATHER TOOK A PICTURE OF ME, E. PAULINE JOHNSTON BESIDE IT. ALL THROUGH SCHOOL TEACHERS OFTEN ASKED IF I WAS RELATED! GOT MARRIED IN 1981 AND MY NAME CHANGED TO JOHNSON!! SO IT WAS APPROPRIATE WHEN VISITING IN DEC/09 THAT MY HUSBAND PHOTOGRAPHED ME ONCE AGAIN WITH THE MONUMENT! HAD DIFFICULTY LOCATING IT IN STANLEY PARK AS IT IS NOT WELL MARKED AND PARK STAFF SEEMED TO BE IN THE DARK ABOUT ANY KNOWLEDGE OF EMILY PAULINE. TOO BAD.
Pauline is one my ancestors and I will looking for the monument tomorrow – my very first trip to Vancouver! I know Pauline didn’t want a monument erected, but I’m very happy it’s there for everyone to remember her talent.
