Don't Forget about the River Rock in Richmond

I’ve been to the River Rock only once since it’s been a casino, but several times when its tower was a clock for the Riverport Market, which was not dissimilar to the Lonsdale Quay.

It was for my birthday and we gambled, had drinks, and scarfed down mounds of prime rib at the buffet – other than that, I don’t remember much else. Now they’ve got a fancy shmancy hotel and will have a Canada Line station there as well. As I was doing a lot of periodical reading the other day, I came across an ad for the River Rock in the Georgia Straight.

Upcoming acts at their theatre include:

  • Boys II Men – December 29th and 31st
  • Patti Labelle – January 11th
  • Lionel Ritchie – January 18th
  • Amanda Marshall – January 19th
  • Even more interesting acts include:

  • Chippendales Revue- February 1st
  • Air Supply – February 7th and 8th
  • Dame Edna – February 14th and 15th
  • Bellydance Superstars – March 21st and 22nd
  • The B-52s – March 28th
  • While this post shouldn’t fall into my “cheap things to do” category, we should be reminded that there are some acts for all tastes that come to Metro Vancouver who don’t perform downtown. Also, seeing as how I rarely, if ever, blog about Richmond, I thought it would be worth noting. Seriously though we would actually consider going to see Brent Butt on January 25th or especially Lewis Black on February 29th (and March 1st).

**warning: coarse language is used in the following video**

Tickets for all shows at the River Rock are available through Ticketmaster. If we do end up going to see Mr. Black, I’ll be sure to write about our experience.

Maybe you and I should venture out that way for a post-birthday trip for you. I’d suggest taking in the Chippendales Revue in hopes that Patrick Swayze might bounce out onto the stage and start thrusting his hips for us. Yes, I used the word “thrust” in your comments.

You know you are on the backside of your career, when you are stuck playing in Indian casino’s.

Keira…I’ve never been known to be all that PC. Heck, I coulda said ‘Injuns’…but, I didn’t.

I look at it this way, for years we (white folk) took everything they had…now they are getting back at us all by taking everything we have. Good on ’em.
