I Need Better Silicone
byEver since Tod Maffin‘s session at Barcamp I’ve been thinking about getting me some silicone. I have a nice, white, pristine MacBook and I need to protect it somehow.
Yesterday at the Apple Store in good ol’ Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, WA I checked out some possible keyboard covers. They were clear or white and cost $29.99 USD. I brought them over to John and he said ya know, we could probably just get that stuff at Future Shop or London Drugs. Well, he was right. I walked into London Drugs this afternoon and found me a silicone cover for $17.99.
Would anyone like to help me out with my silicone issue? I’d really like a cover like John Biehler‘s, I think his is green. Hey John! Where did you get yours? I’d prefer not to buy it online… I’d just like to find a local store that has a simple keyboard (only) cover for the MacBook 13.3″. If anyone can help me out, get me a deal or supply with me one I’d fully promote the heck of out it on my site, thanks!

Whoa…what a post title/image!
I got my ‘silicone’ at Simply Computing on Broadway for about $20 a couple years ago….although I have a Powerbook so it’s a different keyboard layout than your fancy-smancy MacBook. The brand is iSkin and they do sell online at iskin.ca (or on Apple.ca) but it’s cheaper locally – it’s also probably the brand you saw at the Apple store in the Alderwood Mall.
Trick to make it not be a lint magnet is to rinse it with dish soap and let it air dry. Has always worked great on iPod covers too.
I think Future Shop does carry the iSkin’s for MacBooks actually…I seem to recall seeing them the other day in the Mac section at the Park Royal FS. They even have cool ones with coloured keys for different applications like Final Cut and Photoshop.
Awesome! It’s air-drying right now. I looked on the Future Shop site and those fancy colourful ones are about $40. I’ll check out Simply Computing, thanks 🙂
You may also want to look at Mac Station. I want to get one too. Now I have to wait until Tuesday. Ack, holidays.

Yeah, Phillip is right…MacStation is another place that has them….I love that you can lease that item for as little as $1.19 per month!
Simply had a few other colour choices and I think they were cheaper than at MacStation too…I’ve seen it in blue, clear, pink and green although the MacBook models may not have as many options as my good ‘ole Powerbook did.
you had me at *pink* haha
I thought pink might strike a chord 😉
I guess I can’t embed images in your comments (probably a good thing):

I wonder why you took a shot of your laptop in front of your boobies…..LOL…….It’s quite distracting……..
I’m considering on buying a silicon for my MAC too. Your post has helped me a lot, thanks!
Having a fancy-shmancy white MacBook as well, should I really be worried about whether or not I have a silicon cover? I’m not really concerned if it fades to a nice shade of grey (it might match the greying colour of my hair to boot) but is there any other practical need?
Dammit.. Now I need silicone too.
