Future Shop Wants My Money

Comments 15 by Rebecca Bollwitt

Shortly after I got a Future Shop credit card I received a letter in the mail saying that they were discontinuing their credit cards. Huh, okay. A little while after that I received a letter in the mail saying that Future Shop now has a credit card, through HBC and I can sign up if I want.

I really don’t need two Future Shop cards as it appears I’m having a hard enough time just trying to manage the first, obsolete account. I bought my Macbook on the card, along with a few other goodies and shortly after I sent them a check for $1500. Well it seems as though a month too many has gone by and they called me today to ask for a payment of $30. I guess I didn’t send them a payment last month so they’re a bit cranky. Oh but it’s not Future Shop, because their card doesn’t exist anymore, it was some strange bank of out the States calling me to say ‘give us money’.

So I literally said “oops,” and that I would make a payment ASAP either through online banking or at store-level. This seemed to appease the man on the other side of the phone until he asked me, “So what caused you to get behind a payment?” A little blindsided I just said, “Uh I guess I forgot”. He still wanted more saying, “I see, but you are behind,” to which I replied “well I guess I just remembered sending that big fat check and forgot how long ago that was.” He says “Okay so I’ll mark that down as an ‘oversight’ on your part then.” I said, “Sure yeah, just do that.”

Um… I’ve never had someone talk to me that way before, like they were my parent and I was coming home an hour after curfew. Is this normal protocol? Seemed very strange. I’m going to go pay my non-existent Future Shop card off as soon as possible cause I just don’t want to be contacted by a guy like that ever again. Creepy.

I mean if he was from the FOOD BANK I’d be more than happy to pay… Future Shop’s shady ex-Future Shop card is just trying to scam me… yeah… that’s it… my fingers feel heavy 😐

I just bought a 42″ tv from them using the FS Card and no problems for me!

They told me the kind of card I had was “discontinued” and then I got the letter saying to sign up for the “new” one. Something is afoot.

HAHA oh I also got a “certificate of insurance” from them too. They decided my card needed to protect my life and limbs for $14/month, you know, without asking, just preventative.

C’mon Rebecca, you can do it! If I can (and God knows I’ve had my issues, particularly with access to reliable Wi-Fi), of course you can! We are so close! Only 12 more posts! (I think. My brain is fried at the moment). 😀

Can’t say I’m all that surprised. FutureShop is a cesspool of sharks and morons. You only have to go into one of their stores to get a taste of what I mean. I can count on one hand the amount of times that I’ve actually received some constructive, non-sales-pushing assistance from someone in one of those stores – it’s crazy.

So, just thought i’d share some REALLY BAAAAD story of my ‘old’ or shall i say ‘NEVER-EXISTENT’ wells-fargo future shop card. i got a future shop card like 3 years ago now. i got it in the store on the stop when i was about to pay and the sales person convinced me to get one for it’d gimme some discounts. i offered to pay it off right after in the shop. they told me i had to wait for my statement. which NEVER arrived. nor did the real card. nothing ever came in the mail for me from FS, so my fam. couldnt forward my mail since i wasnt living home. then finally i got a “collection notice” from wells fargo when i went home for xmas. it was a “FINAL collection notice” for Nov. 30. which was obviously totally too late. since i only got home for xmas! so i called wells fargo, the lady told me, “sorry, we don’t take care of FS payments anymore, you have to contact them.” but on the FS website, they advise people to contact wells fargo. so. as of now, i owe them friggin’ $2,000+ and unimaginable interest. and i have NOWHERE to pay since i lost my replacement card and i never got a statement and they filed a credit report against me!!!!! but seriously. how was i supposed to pay for the statement that never arrived and i kept contacting them but they refused to give me my info since i didn’t have an acct # that i didnt receive!!!! what a bunch of pricks. and now i still dunno what to do with my $2,000+ OLD FS-WellsFargo debt!!!!

I’ve been trying to pay mine for ages and they keep reporting me but they won’t send me a statement saying how much I owe and the only time they wells-fargo is open is when I’m at work! It’s all a bunch of crap it takes forever to change your address with them and I have seriously ruined my credit waiting around for bills, sometimes getting 3 months behind and I am really ready to kill someone over this but I still owe more than half of my computer I bought more than a year ago!

Same here. I just wanted to pay down the promo ‘zero’ interest rate deal they gave me in 2006. I contacted FS and they forwarded me to wells fargo…but they won’t take the call. they want customers to write to them.. I can’t update my address or confirm my balance. Brutal.

From reading other peoples issues with future shop regarding not receiving there statement, I had the same problem 2 years ago. I never received a FS statement after applying for a new credit card, a year down the road I got a call saying why I haven’t paid for the balance on my FS statement, I said I never received the statement, and they transferred me to another person saying the card was sent including the statement, I said never received it and they didn’t believe me. After talking to 7-8 different representatives of the credit card company, they said ok just pay the $338. for the purchase and everything should be resolved. Well was I wrong 2 years after paying for the purchase I received a collections letter for the interest of the purchase. With no one mentioning about owing this at the time I finished paying for the purchase. Has anyone fighted this? perhaps going to a lawyer? Whats the best way to resolve this?

I’m really unhappy with Future Shop credit. I just made a purchase with my card and payed the extra to have what I thought was no payments/no interest for 6 months. Well apparently it was equal payments for 12 months… which really I can’t figure out because before I left the store with my purchase the fellow who I dealt with said ‘you’ll get a bill saying minimum payment, but don’t worry about it’.

SO anyways I call up Future Shop (Wells Fargo) to sort this out and see if there is anything I can do to correct the problem, because I now have a late payment against me(even if I had overpaid my previous bill and had a $100 credit).

After trying to contact them for 2 days (on hold for 30 and 45mins), I finally get through today and the woman tells me she can’t do anything, she is not authorized to speak about it. I asked for a manager, she would not let me speak to one. I asked several times and finally she said there is no manager here, then I asked for someone to call me and she would not agree to it. I am thoroughly frustrated and am going to take this as far as I can. BEWARE of these people.

I have been trying to put in a change of address so that I actually get an invoice and can see how much I owe (or dont owe). What a pain! I called the number above and was given another number because the women I was dealing with said that she could look at my account but not change the address or make account changes because it was on a different system. She gave me another number 1800.387.5881.
