Harvey, Ruby, Crackbook and WordPress
byMy boss sent me an IM on Skype the other day talking about how fun it would be to work with the following people – and I wholeheartedly have to agree. I mean my office is pretty fun, very relaxed, but this is just hilarious.
So thinking about what my office could do, if we had maybe 20 more people and were so bold, John suggested the Kaiser Chiefs – Ruby [Audihertz]. This would be particularly fun since our realtime payment management suite is built using Ruby on Rails. Somehow though, I find it highly unlikely that my office would put together something like this, now Bryght on the other hand, I can see. That, and I think we all might get a kick of out “karaoke Boris”.
Speaking of offices and work, I’ve been at my new job just over a month now and I think it’s going pretty well. I’m not excruciatingly bored and they’re not tired of me yet so that’s a good sign. I’ve been tinkering so much with WordPress that I’m going to start applying some of my new tricks to Miss604.com and see where that gets me. I’ve had this current theme for almost a year and I might just spruce it up a little. I really enjoy the minimalist look and feel and I think I can probably make this here site a little more fancy by way of a couple plugins. It’s really great that John is expanding his knowledge, in the realm of WP and Drupal, as well.
Although my blogging has slowed down a little recently I think it’s the “Facebook Syndrome” as Corinna [GusGreeper.com] pointed out to us the other day. Ever since Facebook came on the scene traffic’s been a little slow in blog-ville. I think the two can play together very nicely and I haven’t even begun to lose faith. All of these tools are just that, tools to help grow social networks and it’s all about cross-promotion. Now, it’s back to the land of WordPress for me and I must admit, I’m growing more and more envious of Dave’s shirt (above) with every passing day.

That video is too cool!
And all in one take too. Impressive.
without yours and johns help i’d still be living in lame vile. im getting a header today or tomorrow. sweet. looks like i’ll be going rotating…..we all know i can’t hook that up myself thank goodness im having a birthday 😉
hehe
Of course with me you get two cool shirts in one. I dig both and oddly get equal quantities of comments on each – thanks to Discollection (RIP) for the flowery and Lloyd for the geeky one.
For the record i finally started toking the facebook cr4ck today and still cannot figure out what the fuss is about. I think i am so into making new content that reminiscing with old friends is uninspiring but also frustrated about how come i cannot add multiple schools or colleges (i attended 6 schools from 8th-12th grades and 5 colleges before scoring my hard-earned Evergreen BA). I was hoping for some doldrum distraction but seemed like no big thang Sigh – what am i missing? Am i just uncool? My search for 1988 grads of Orem (Utah) HS produced no results but i figure the Osmonds would show up at least.
That video is totally sweet. Actually, the video itself isn’t so sweet, it’s the fact that they did it that’s totally sweet.
Oddly enough I just bought this CD last night. Also grabbed Reel Big Fish’s Turn the Radio Off (why not do this with “Sell Out?” or a Less Than Jake song? The Brightest Bulb Has Burned Out/second part of that track would be neat). It was like the used book store was having a sale on my high school years, all for a dollar a disc.
Further strangeness, one of my roommates wanted to do something like this in the Ped Mall in Iowa City to Styx’s Domo Origato Mr. Roboto. Imagine a sort of Bubsy Berkeley dance number only nobody else in the Ped Mall would be warned beforehand. It was a good idea but we never followed through with good ideas back then.
Blogs!
Love people that love what they do.
Great clip, thanks for posting.
I usually hate these cute office things. I never like the people who are supposed to be so much fun. But this is great. Very well done.
The classic is the ‘Amarillo’ video some Brit troops did in Iraq…its classic. I actually have a video of expat son lying in the sun singing ‘Broadway’ by the Goo Goo Dolls…classic.
You’re the second person I’ve read to remark on the effect of Facebook on bloggers’ output (on their original blog). ‘Tis sad. Though I haven’t explored the Facebook interface for blogging, I’m convinced by tech reports that it’s not of the caliber of WordPress or, even, Blogger. It’s an individual decision — I have a social entity that does not plug for my blog at any chance so that’s why I don’t publish from or link to it on my Facebook. Linking Tumblr posts, into which I put less of myself, is a different matter. =D
What a great, fun video! I wonder what kind of office it is.
