The Shops at Morgan Crossing is a new shopping village in South Surrey, near Highway 99 and 24th Avenue. Opening last September, they will be adding a handful of new shops this spring and summer.

Along the lines of Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood (which used to have the closest Apple Store to Vancouver) or The Village at Park Royal, it brings popular stores outside the mall to an outdoor pedestrian streetscape. Anchors include Best Buy, Winners, Golf Town, London Drugs, and Thrifty Foods which are complimented by shops like West 49, Claire’s, Jacob and Town Shoes. Skipping the classic food court model, there’s a White Spot nearby as well as smaller fast casual restaurants like Pita Pit and even a Mink Chocolate CafÃ©. I must say that having grown up in Surrey, it’s nice to see how its retail landscape has changed since the smokey brown-tiled days of Surrey Place Mall.

The Shops at Morgran Crossing are hosting events during spring break including a synthetic ice rink with free skating March 19 – March 23, 2011. The 3,000 square foot rink will be open 10:00am until 7:00pm daily and will have skate rental or sharpening by donation.
