CelticFest Vancouver 2011 & St Patricks Day Parade
byLeading up to the 7th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 20th, CelticFest Vancouver will provide days of entertainment and activities downtown. A few of the major events include the following:
CelticFest Vancouver Kick-Off
When: Tuesday, March 15, starting at 11:30am
Where: Procession begins in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery and heads to the music stage on the Plaza at Pacific Centre (Georgia & Granville).
Info: BC Regiment Irish Pipes & Drums, Brave Heart Warriors, Eire Born Irish Dancers from the Nora Pickett Irish Dance Academy, The Colin Grant Band. This will be the site of free lunchtime concerts throughout the week as well.
A Whisky Kiss – 5th Annual Scotch-Tasting
When: Wednesday, March 16, starting at 5:00pm
Where: (March 16 at Doolin’s Irish Pub)
Info: Tickets are $30 in advance
Celtic Village
When: Saturday, March 19, 11:00am – 6:00pm & Sunday, March 20, 10:00am – 5:00pm
Where: Granville between Georgia and Smithe
Info: Free admission and performances along with activities like the Gaelic Football & Hurling Skills demo.
Brewmaster’s Dinner
When: Saturday, March 19, starting at 5:30pm
Where: The Cellar (1006 Granville at Nelson)
Info: Tickets are $35 in advance
BIG St. Pat’s Night Out!
When: Saturday, March 19, starting at 7:00pm
Where: The Vogue Theatre (918 Granville St)
Info: Featuring Spirit of The West with special guests, The Starbirds. Tickets are $30 in advance
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
When: Sunday, March 20, starting at 11:00am
Where: The parade route will start at Howe & Drake and will proceed north along Howe Street to Georgia Street. Turning right on Georgia, it will end at Granville. The Celtic Village will be open before and after the parade so that the family can enjoy even more free activities. Check out the the CelticFest website for street closure and bus re-routing information.
A full festival schedule is available online including more tasting events, concerts, and a Celtic film festival at Edgewater Casino.

I saw Spirit of the West’s John Mann in The Vancouver Playhouse’s production of Beyond Eden last year. It was spellbinding.
