Vancouver Wellness Show 2011
byThe 19th annual Wellness Show returns this month to the Vancouver Convention Centre. Featuring workshops, demonstrations, seminars, and a cooking stage for all aspects of healthy living, the show also focuses on women’s wellness, kids’ health, pet health, and healthy aging.
Exhibitors include Choices Markets, Dairy Farmers of Canada, Bikram Yoga, and speakers such as Dr. Rhonda Low (CTV), Alessandra Quaglia (The Dancing Chef), Master Zhi Gang Sha (NY Times Best Selling author and world-renowned healer) who will take to the many stages.
Hours are Friday, February 18, 2011 (12:00pm – 8:00pm), Saturday, February 19 (10:00am – 7:00pm), and Sunday, February 20 (10:00am – 6:00pm).
The Wellness Show has offered up a “Best of the West Package” from West Coast College of Massage Therapy for one lucky Miss604.com reader. This includes a spa facial, massage, and pedicure along with two tickets to the Wellness Show.

Regular exercise and eating things in moderation so that you can occasionally indulge.

What has been working for me for the last 5 months is smaller portions, eating a good breakfast and walking for 20-30 minutes everyday.

My number 1 wellness tip would be to never assume that what worked for you will work for someone else or vice versa — listen to your own body, talk to some folks in the know and do what feels right and brings benefits to YOU.
Park the car away from the entrance and take the stairs whenever possible….Every step counts!

Be sure to ‘unplug’ from your computer from time to time and any related devices! Take mini breaks and vacations when you can!

Choosing the active alternatives.. walking instead of driving, stairs instead of elevators. It is the little things that ultimately makes a difference in the quest to stay fit 🙂
Avoid processed foods
A great way to alkalize is to drink lemon/lime in your water.
Take time out for yourself and always keep a positive attitude.

I try to eat the ‘old fashioned’ oatmeal 5 days a week and instead of brown sugar, I use bananas as a sweetener and I sprinkle ground flax seed on it after it is cooked.
I get a minimum 8 hrs sleep, and eat at least three fruits a day.
My sister just turned 40 and is really getting into the “Wellness” lifestyle. Can’t imagine what she’ll be like when she’s 50.
Have a prune every day – has very high ORAC and helps your brain stay healthy as you age.
Best tip for healthy living: Take 1000iu of Vitamin D, every day.

A few tips here. Take a brisk 20 minute walk rain, snow or shine, first thing before breakfast daily.
Drink two glasses of tepid filtered water every morning before breakfast.
A couple of times a week make a green smoothie without dairy or soy and without sugar or honey.
Don’t eat anything in a package unless it holds only one fresh ingredient.

Walk whenever you can–walk to the store to get groceries, walk with a friend to chat instead of sitting at coffee. If you have to drive, park far away!

Some great tips here! A couple I live by:
Eat breakfast everyday, Oatmeal is the best!
Try an apple for energy instead of coffee
Cut your sugar intake, try stevia instead (lots of “portable” options available, so no excuses)
Veggies should take up half your plate, protein and starch, a quarter.
Stock up on veggies to snack on. Peel and cut them up all at once-most keep well if refrigerated in a bit of water.
Go for dark greens and broccoli daily if possible.
A piece of dark chocolate for cravings is yummy and good for you (in moderation).
Love life and spread it around.
Massages. We all need that touch.
Walk as much as you can… for body, mind and soul.
