Vancouver Lookout at Harbour Centre
byWhen people describe what they like most about Vancouver you’ll be sure to hear the scenery top the list. Mountains, ocean, evergreens, park space and beaches are what make our region shine and there’s probably no better vantage point downtown than from the 360 degree deck at the Vancouver Lookout.
Fun facts about the Vancouver Lookout at Harbour Centre:
- Harbour Centre opened June 8, 1977 and was the tallest building in Vancouver at the time.
- The Vancouver Lookout and business building opened August 13, 1977.
- Neil Armstrong (first man on a moon) left a set of footprints in fresh concrete that are still on display today. [source]
- The glass elevator will whisk you up 430 feet in 40 seconds flat.
- Once at the top, guided or self-guided tours are available.
The heated panoramic deck is open day and night from 9:00am – 9:00pm (October to May) and 8:30am – 10:30pm (May to October). Aside from staring at the Lions all day or peering out to the Fraser Valley, you can also see how the city is growing, spotting a century of architecture downtown.
The Lookout hosts art exhibits throughout the year in the Armstrong Gallery and is currently presenting “BC Sports Hall of Fame celebrates Winter Sports” until February 28, 2011.
On your date of purchase, your ticket is valid from open to close so you can enjoy the early morning sun and the bright colours of dusk.
If you would like to take in the view yourself, I have a family pass available courtesy of the Vancouver Lookout that will be valid for all a full year. This includes admission for two adults and two children (ages 5 to 12, since 5 and younger are free anyway) and has a value of $89.
Here’s how you can enter to win this FREE annual family pass:
