Cirque du Soleil KOOZA: Win Tickets

Cirque du Soleil returns to Vancouver with KOOZA. Under the bright blue and yellow chapiteau at Concord Pacific the performance is described as “an adrenaline rush of acrobatics performed in a zany kingdom”.

Between strength and fragility, laughter and smiles, turmoil and harmony, KOOZA â€“ a return to the origins of Cirque du Soleil – explores themes of fear, identity, recognition and power. The show is set in an electrifying and exotic visual world full of surprises, thrills, chills, audacity and total involvement.

Kooza will run in Vancouver from July 22nd until August 22nd and regular tickets start at $60. There is also a VIP “tapis rouge” option where you can enjoy a reception before and after the performance. You can use this exclusive Miss604.com link to purchase tickets online.

I happen to have two tickets to give away for the opening night performance July 22nd. As I anticipate this contest will garner many entries, I will not have an option to enter the contest via Twitter (it may flood the Vancouver Twitter airwaves). However, any re-tweets are appreciated.

To enter to win two tickets to Cirque du Soleil’s Kooza please leave a comment on this post stating how you feel about Cirque du Soleil or why you would like to see the show. The winner will be drawn at random July 13th. As this is also a very long-running contest, I will allow 1 entry per person, per week. That way you can triple your chances to win this summer.

I have never seen a Cirque Show, but have heard many great things about them. Cirque shows have been known to capture it’s audiences and to bring laughter, play, and imagination back into our minds.

Kooza intrigues me as I feel that there are some similarities in the themes (fear, identity, recognition and power) and what is going on in my life right now. It would be amazing to see this show.

I mentor a 12-year-girl who LOVES performance arts. Her family is down on its luck but her spirit is fierce. We often check out plays and performances and pretty much anything artistic we can get our hands on.

4 years ago I came from the Netherlands for 2 weeks to visit my girlfriend who lived in Vancouver. This was our 1st summer together. For her birthday I took her to Cirque du Soleil. It was the 1st time seeing Cirque du Soleil for both of us and it was great. We still have good memories about our 1st short summer together and specifically our night out to Cirque du Soleil.

Now 4 years later we’re living together here in Vancouver. We would live to see Cirque du Soleil again!

Cirque du Soleil has inspired and entertained millions. I think they belong in Canada’s top 10 “inventions” and success stories. Makes me proud to be Canadian and know this creative energy started here. I was born and raised in Quebec (the city) and was one of the few lucky people to see their first show. It must have been around 1984. In Le Vieux Port de Quebec… I remember my mom telling me we were going to see a circus show but with no animals. It was a strange idea as at the time, circus shows always had animals. At least that’s what I thought. I remember loving it! I’m ashamed to say I have never seen them again since. Except for their free outdoor show in Quebec city last summer, when I was visiting my family. So winning a pair of tickets would be really special to me… 🙂

I know that people everywhere are wild about Cirque du Soleil, and I was too until I had an incredibly negative experience with them. I feel obligated to publicize it wherever possible, for the sake of myself and the others who were affected by it.

I was assigned to work for them by a temporary employment agency during their stay in Vancouver. I was excited about working for such a world-renown company. To my great disappointment, I found they are a terribly managed company that treats their employees (at the least the temporary ones) extremely disrespectfully. They over-hired in my department and found excuses to fire nearly 20 people out of the 46 originally signed on without giving any warning or explanation. They caused many of us to suffer a financial set-back and a lot of frustration.

They do not communicate well with their employees and expect way too much. We were asked to remain available 40 hours a week and given maybe 4-8 hours a week.

I will never be going to see a Cirque du Soleil show. They are a corrupt company with far too much money and ego.

I am warning any one who reads this never to work for them, and if you can help yourself, do not support them. The shows may be incredible on the surface, but the tickets are grossly over-priced and I can only imagine (as I have heard rumours) how badly their performers are treated. While Guy LalibertÃ© promotes his One Drop campaign, his company is abusing its employees and making millions of dollars that I highly doubt are going to the right places.
