Bard on the Beach: Antony & Cleopatra
byBard on the Beach’s second headlining production for 2010 is Antony & Cleopatra, on now until September 24th. I haven’t been able to attend yet this season however Miss604.com’s roving theatre and film fest correspondant Michelle Kim checked it out last weekend.
“I have seen Shakespeare performed at The Globe, The Westend, and at various festivals across Canada and The United States,” said Kim. “But there is completely unique and absolutely miraculous about Bard on the Beach.”
“Anthony and Cleopatra transcends time and space and even race as the Roman-Egyptian love story is trust upon the Vancouver’s skies; the sparkle of gold in Cleopatra’s headress matching of gold of the setting sun.”
If you would like to check out Antony & Cleopatra I have two tickets for this Saturday, July 3rd. Here’s how to enter to win:
I’ll draw one winner on Wednesday June 30th.
Update The winner is Jeff (comment from June 28th). Congratulations and have a great time at Bard!

Hey 604! Bard is one of those things I have put on the “do later” list for several seasons. It is about time I get my buttsky out to catch a show in a ridiculous beautiful setting!
Pick me because I love Shakespeare!
I haven’t even read Antony & Cleopatra. That should make for an entertaining evening!
RB! I’ve never ever gone to Bard on the Beach. Each year, I say I’m going to do, but it never pans out – plus the story Anthony & Cleopatra definitely speaks to me right now.
I love Bard on the Beach! My husband and I used to go every year but we haven’t since we had kids. It would be a wonderful night out 🙂
I ran by the tents the other day and it looked very magical. I like magic and I think it’s time I checked out some Shakespeare on the beach!
I have lived in YVR for 14 years and haven’t been to Bard on the Beach – would love to go
My wife and I have never been and I’d love to surprise her with tickets to a Shakesphere event. Thanks for the opportunity!
I just think Bard on the Beach is one of the greatest things in an unmatched setting. I went once, many many years ago and would love to go again!
It’s going to be my first summer here in Vancouver-I’d love to go.
Watching Shakespeare against a beautiful scenic backdrop? I’d love to go!
I haven’t been to Bard on the Beach yet and would love to check it out!
I’ve always loved bard and make sure I get out to it every year. Antony and Cleopatra is one I would dearly love to watch if I weren’t already penny pinching for a chance to see Falstaff and Henry V.
I’ve only been once a few years back and have always meant to go again as it was a wonderful experience. This would make sure I do!
pick me cause I would love to go!
There is nothing better than a stage with a backdrop of our fabulous mountains!
I’ve never seen Bard on the Beach, so I would love to go!
Looks great!
Never been to a Shakespeare in the Park in Vancouver. I’ve seen the one in Calgary but I really want to check this one out too! Plus, it’s within walking distance from my house.
Because I check it out every year!
I would love to surprise my boy with tickets to the theater. He’s a Shakespeare fanatic and I’d like to get a taste of his world as all I know of Shakespeare was in English Lit 12 LOL.
I would love to do this! Ever since we moved to the Lower Mainland 5 years ago, I pick up the brochure, mark the nights we can go and then…something always come up! We’ve never been and would love to go. Fingers crossed.
Nothing could make for a better evening than watching Shakespeare’s ‘Antony & Cleopatra,’ hearing one of his most famous speeches in a beautiful Vancouver setting.
Because it is near the top of my “Must do while living in Vancouver” list.
Please send me – I’d like to rid myself of the image of Liz Taylor as Cleopatra.
I love Shakespeare and Classical stories (I’m a Classics Major) and would love to take my boyfriend out for a romantic evening of Shakespeare and the beach.
“O excellent! I love long life better than figs.”

Ever since I discovered Bard on the Beach a few years ago…I never thought learning more about Shakespeare could be so much fun with such a gorgeous Vancouver backdrop.
I’ve never been to Bard on the Beach so would love to check it out!
i’ve been once when i was in high school but haven’t been since and it would be fun to check out just because i WANT to and not because i HAD to 🙂
I want to take a friend who’s never been!
I have been once and once is not enough… love bard
I’ve heard many wonderful things about Bard on the Beach but have never been… It’s definitely on my list & I’d love to go!
i think i’ve actually read this one 😉
Pick me- I work 2 jobs and it would be the best excuse for a fun day off!
Still never been, would love to go this weekend!
I’d like to see Anthony & Cleopatra at BotB to compare it to Liz Taylor and Richard Burton’s movie 😀
When I first heard about Bard on the Beach 2 years ago when I moved here, I was hooked on the concept. My first show was King Lear (I think…) and now I’m ready for show number two.
I’ve lived in Vancouver all of my life and have never been to Bard on the Beach. Looking for work at the moment, so winning tickets would be really sweet as I’m on a limited budget these days.
Because I love Bard. And the actors and the sunset.
Cleopatra is babe sauce 😉
For old times sake. I haven’t been to a Bard on the Beach play for years.
Have always wanted to see a Shakespeare play live but haven’t had the chance yet!
Anthony and Cleopatra is one Shakespearean play that I have never seen performed. The photograph with this blog entry is amazing….what a backdrop.
Would love this!
I want to see Bard very very much because every summer I go back home in Asia and I always miss it but this year I’m in Vancouver!
I’d love to watch Shakespeare on the beach!
Oh my gosh…always on the wrong side of the fence looking in…wishing I was there instead….:)
Shakespeare was always so boring in highschool. It would have been great to attend a Bard on the Beach performance back then to make more of an everlasting impression.
My lovely wife deserves a wonderful evening of high culture on the beach. And the set looks great, too.
I’d love to take my girl to see this.
Dear Miss604,
I need to expose my husband to some culture. (Too many Hollywood movies turns his brains into mush)! 😉
i used to go to bard on the beach so much in high school because of a special english teacher. Now, as a poor university student I can’t afford it, but I would love to go and relive the magic!
Thanks
I really enjoy Shakespeare plays and would love to see Bard and the Beach’s production.
Miss 604,
This is a traditional birthday gift for a friend- if I win I will take her to 2 plays!!!
I entered to win tickets to Antony & Cleopatra from @BardontheBeach & @miss604 http://ow.ly/24lkl

What a setting for a summer night.
Good luck.
Never seen this Shakespeare play. Would love to see it.
I have never seen Bard and I would love to see Anthony & Cleopatra in this open air setting.
I think this would be the perfect summer night activity. I like the play.
I would love to win this simply because I try and go to one Bard on the Beach performance every year, though this year I am broke as I took time off work to go to school 🙁 I would love to go, as I love the open air setting, especially on a beautiful sunny day!
Looks great!
I’m actually reading Shakespeare currently and am about half way through the book though I don’t believe I’ve read Antony and Cleopatra yet.
Every year, I say I’ll go check out Bard on the Beach and every year, something always comes up and I’m unable to go. I’ve never seen a Shakespeare play before and would love the chance to see one!
I would love to go see this, and since today is my birthday, it would make a great gift from you to me…:)
It’s Bard on the Beach- why wouldn’t someone like tickets to this.
I’m new to Vancouver and keep hearing how amazing Bard on the Beach is. Haven’t seen A+S since studying it at school!
I try to check out the Bard every year, winning this contest means I can see more than one play!
I have never been to Bard on the Beach and I’ve always wanted to go. I never can find anyone to go with me. I love shakespeare and I love the outdoors!
Please enter me!
I’ve always wanted to go to Bard on the Beach, and this is one of my favorite works by Shakespeare!
I have been walk around the tent for the Bard before when I go kiting. The Bard seems popular and attractive!
Oh my gosh, I would LOVE to win this – I’ve lived in Vancouver all my life and have yet to see a play at Bard on the Beach…!
I just love the Bard!
Going to Bard on the Beach is like sitting in on a fairy tale in action, and who can resist Antony and Cleopatra? Classic love story. Would love love love to go!
Bard Virgin: Pick me! Pick me! Pick me!
I would LOVE to see this 🙂
I’d forgotten about this contest until reading your blog posts today. With all the events I have attended over the years, have still not made it to Bard on The Beach, so there’s a good reason to enter 🙂
*(not to mention being on the beach and enjoying the gorgeous surroundings)*
I’ve not a big fan of Bard on the Beach but David Blue’s picture is awesome.
My in laws arrive tomorrow and I know they would love it. It would prove to them why BC is the Best Place on Earth. 🙂
I love Shakespeare and have always wanted to check out a Bard production! I signed up to volunteer this year, but was unable to make the interview due to family obligations. Would love the opportunity to check this out!
the bard is such a great night out. I love watching the sunset through the backdrop of the play. LOVELY
