With so much going on around Metro Vancouver my April Events Guide requires this supplementary Link Fest. The following are community fundraising events that have all been emailed my way.

Friends of Paul Carson
This Friday, April 16th at 7:00pm Friends of Paul Carson will take place at Republic on Granville. On February 1st local broadcaster Paul Carson was diagnosed with a type of cancer that requires expensive, specialized and highly aggressive treatments. The event will be hosted by B-Mac (Barry Macdonald) and Don Taylor of TEAM 1040 and there will be silent auction items, prizes, and entertainment from the Famous Players Band. Tickets are available online for $195 and include food, drinks and entertainment. Also, thanks to the event’s sponsors, the entire $195 of each ticket will go directly toward Paul’s treatment and care.

Laughs at the Legion
A comedy showcase featuring the West Coast’s funniest talent happens tomorrow, Friday April 16th at the Legion on Commercial. Tickets are $15 with $5 from each going to the Union Gospel Mission. You can read more details in my post and contact Patrick Maliha for more information and tickets.

ColourWheels Art Gala
The ColourWheels Art Gala will be taking place on Friday, April 16 at the Blusson Spinal Cord Centre in Vancouver. This exhibit will feature the works of local visual and performing artists, each of whom are living with spinal cord injury (SCI). The Gala is a fundraiser for Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion and funds will be used to help improve the quality of life of people living with SCI. Tickets can be purchased online for $20 and include admission and a beverage. VIP tickets are $100 and they include two beverages, access to the VIP gala, and a copy of the autobiography Rick Hansen Man In Motion.

IMPACT: An event for change
Dress for Success Vancouver presents its annual fundraiser, IMPACT: An event for change, hosted at the historic Birks building on Tuesday April 20th. This is the 11th year for the event that supports Dress for Success Vancouver, “a registered Canadian Charity that helps low and no income women to transition into the workforce by providing professional attire.” Tickets are available online

African Dance Night
The Nuru Tudor Foundation is hosting a fundraiser at the Anza Club on April 22nd. This community-based organization in Zimbabwe is run by Vancouverite Georgia Temple and provides support programs for school-aged children. African Dance Night will featured the Zimbabwean Marimba Troupe, Kunaka, who performed at Robson Square during the Olympics as well as the music of DJ Il Comandante. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the door.

Bernd Dittrich Memorial Scholarship Fund
SFU is hosting a pub night fundraiser in support of the Bernd Dittrich Memorial Scholarship Fund. “Bernd Dittrich was SFU’s star quarterback in 2009 until his tragic passing in November. In his memory, SFU athletics has started a memorial scholarship fund for international student athletes at SFU.” On April 30th, the Mountain Shadow Pub will host the fundraiser. Tickets are $10 which will get your a burger and a beer from 6:30pm until 9:00pm. You can purchase tickets at the door on the day of the event or contact Simon by email: sha25[at]

Teeing it up for Change
Gordon House Youth Search is a community organization based in Vancouver’s West End that provides services for at-risk youth. On June 23rd they will be hosting a fundraising golf tournament at the Guilford Golf and Country Club. They are currently looking for 30 teams of 4 so if you’d like to hit the links and support these services you may register your team online. The per player cost is $150 and dinner is included.
