Vancouver International Auto Show
byThe Vancouver International Auto Show will be at BC Place March 30th until April 4th. The size and grandeur of this year’s show is quite evident, given the scale of the venue and that the lottery grand prize is a Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet.
Exhibits include:
Now famous for his stroll through Whistler Village and chugging a beer, gold medalist Jon Montgomery will also be at the Auto Show for a meet n’ greet on April 4th.
Show hours are Noon – 10:00pm (Tuesday to Friday), 10:00am – 10:00pm (Saturday), and 10:00am – 6:00pm (Sunday). Tickets are available through Ticketmaster for $18 + fees (multi-day) or $10 (single day).
I have a couple of four packs of tickets to give away to the Auto Show, good on any day of the event. Since it’s all about the cars, please leave a comment listing your favourite driving destination. For some ideas, I have a Day Tripping series or I’m sure many have their own favourite afternoon, weekend, or extended road trip spots.
You may also post an update to Twitter to enter by copying/pasting the following:
I will draw two winners on Friday March 26th at 12:00pm. Each will receive 4 tickets for the Auto Show.
Update The winners are Scott (from comments) and Soo Wei (from comments) congratulations!

Many of you who read this page will not know the road, but my favourite driving road is the Snake Pass in England. It crosses the Pennines from Lancashire to Yorkshire (and the other way round, depends which way you’re driving!). It is beautiful both in summer when the sun glances off the lake, and in winter, when the snow makes everything perfect. And to drive it is a dream, better at night when you can go rally style, but gorgeous nonetheless.
And I like cars.
Stanley Park at 2am.
Chuckanut Drive. We live in South Surrey so the border is relatively close. Very pretty on a sunny day!
The Duffy Lake Loop

Driving to Whistler on the Sea to Sky highway
I have to agree about Snake Pass in England, lovely drive, along with the Sally Gap in the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland.
Locally I love the Sea to Sky highway, hard to beat it.
Capilano Suspension Bridge (world’s greatest suspension footbridge) =)
I agree- I love the Sea to Sky highway.
Yosemite to Death Valley in California. Went on a roadtrip there last summer and it was an amazing experience!
Driving anywhere in BC in the summer, with some great tunes and the top down.
I agree with many of the comments, Sea to Sky highway to Whistler is one of the best drives of my life! 😀
The windy roads in Stanley park when there’s no traffic
my vote is for sea to sky highway
Not a great view but i enjoy driving from kingsway down willingdon and then onto grandview hwy. It’s just that i barely need to push the gas at all.
driving to tofino from nanaimo on the island. Surf boards on the roof, top down, good group of friends listening to tunes, ready for the surf and the amazing scenery along the way
The best drive is the Oregon Coast in the early fall. The waves and the warm but still crisp air really make you enjoy the moment.
Old Island Highway from Parksville to Courtenay – beautiful seaside scenery and not much traffic.
I love the drive from Jasper to the ice fields. Scenery and wildlife are spectacular.
As for day trips, Whistler, Cypress, and a trip to Tofino get my vote.
Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler!
Driving to Squamish or Whistler for friendly moments 😀
Whistler or Tofino!
Haven’t driven much in BC yet, but my favourite drive so far was to the Okanagan via Highway 3 through Manning Provincial Park. Favourite drive ever was California Highway 1 near Big Sur.
Bellingham! Not to short. Not too long. Nice people. Lovely Farmer’s Market. Good food.
My favorite road to drive is definitely between West Van and Whistler. Not only for the curving road, but also the spectacular view (and the destination). Can’t beat that.
Dyke Road in south Richmond. Once you’re east of No. 3 Road, there are stretches that feel like a quiet country road far away from urbanization.
Definitely driving from Burnaby to Whistler on the Sea to Sky highway. The view is so nice.
It’s a terrible cheat, but it would be the road to my in-laws’ place in Greece. It’s about 15 minutes of driving from the main town, all on a ridiculously narrow mountain road. Our nickname for it is “the road of harrowing death.” It’s quite entertaining in a very small manual-trans rental car.
I must say Whistler too 😉
The Sea to Sky highway. The start to any of my road trips
Sea to Sky in the Summer!
Highway six from Vernon to Fauquier, then up to Nakusp, south to New Denver, and over to Balfour.
the windy road on the way to tofino!
Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. It’s just an awesome drive, amazing views all around. The trip itself is the destination.
For something closer to home, Chilliwack Lake, and all the campgrounds around that area.
Driving on my way to Seattle.
Hwy 101 down the coast to California.
Taking my dog to Buntzen lake in Port Moody for a hike/swim
sea to sky highway!
I enjoy the drive to Banff and also the Sea to Sky Highway. For something closer to home then I like the Barnet Highway from Burnaby to Coquitlam.
down the states for shopping!
have to agree sea-to-sky highway is amazing! and its close by!
Highway 1 California
Sea to sky
All depends on the time available:
An afternoon: Squamish
A night away: Seattle (although the actual road’s pretty dreadful!)
A weekend: Tofino
A week: into The Rockies
So that’s covered North, South, East and West 🙂
I always enjoyed the Pacific Coast Hwy in sunny Southern California. Only if I had a convertible for that!! Also I’ll be driving to Ocean Shores in WA. next month, which is next to the Pacific Ocean, that should be a fun weekend trip!
I love the drive from Vancouver to Banff, or even Calgary (obviously longer than a day trip). For a shorter drive, Cypress Falls is a good “lesser-known” destination.
Thanks for running these contests btw.
Taking the Lougheed Highway to Harrison early in the morning (much quieter and you go through small cities you can stop for a coffee at)
i love driving in europe especially in the south of France and Austria…the views are spectacular
My favourite driving destination is the Tail of the Dragon. Best done on a motorcycle but any little roadster would do as well.
One of my favorite drives is up Squamish river road. From Vancouver you drive along the beautiful sea to sky highway to just past Squamish and turn left at the turn off for alice lake. The road winds along the river until it peeters out to nothing. There a few campgrounds along the way to make a weekend out of the trip.
Fav drive for me is SW Marine drive this time of year.
Most scenic and dangerous is definitely Road to Hana in Maui.
Sea to Sky highway.
The Oregon Coast.
haha I guess I’m a bit late, I still tweeted before I saw the draw date…oops
