Earth Hour Vancouver
byEarth Hour is happening Saturday March 27, 2010 from 8:30pm until 9:30pm, whichever timezone you are in. During this time, individuals and businesses are encouraged to turn off all unnecessary items that are plugged in, starting with the lights. The difference made in this single hour, around the globe, is measurable and a sign that many do care about climate change.
In support of spreading awareness about climate change, many communities get together to host Earth Hour events and you can share your support using their social media toolkit. Even the NBA’s Steve Nash is getting in on the action on BC Hydro’s Earth Hour site.

I’m planning a candlelit dinner with my husband.
I will read a book by candle light only. Hopefully I can have dinner made before that because I will just be getting home from work.
My earth hour celebrations are always low key – I unplug absolutely everything and enjoy a quiet evening. My favorite part is looking out my window to see how many apartments have gone dark in the West End – hopefully more this year than last!
Shutting down as many energy-consuming items in my home and enjoying a candlelit chat with my hubby.
Unplugging all extraneous electronic devices. Perhaps getting together with friends and having wine & cheese by candlelight!
Will participate like every year, we usually stay home and just play cards by candlelight.
I’ll be celebrating by turning off my lights, all electronics:)
I will likely be doing the same thing I did last year… realising how difficult it is to get ready to go out without lights!
I will of course be shutting off the lights. During this time it will doing activities that people have been doing ages without light, talking with family and friends and even trying things that require light. It’s just more fun that way.
I will unplug as much as I can and then take a nap!
I’m heading up to Cypress’ Lookout to see how much of Vancouver becomes dark. Yes I understand that it isn’t energy saving, but I already keep things unplugged when not in use. Lights rarely come on in our place too hehe
I’ll be playing board games with my husband by using candle lights.
My wife and I will be gazing at stars while being bundled up in blankets.
I’ll be turning off the lights and unplugging the electronics to enjoy an hour (or three!) of beautiful silence.
I’ll be celebrating by turning off all lights & electronics and having a romantic candle-lit dinner with my fiancee.
I’m going to turn off all the lights in my house, unplug electronics and play some cards by candle light!
Earth hour? Make it Earth day, picnic outside, enjoy the Spring, fresh foods and good fun.
I’ll be putting my son down to sleep then so it’ll be bedtime stories by candle light. All light and electronics off, listening to the neighbourhood sounds.
I haven’t participated in Earth Hour in previous years so this time I will turn off all the lights, computer, tv, and radio and take a nap 🙂
Turning all the necessities I usually use, such as my tv, computer, and my lamp, and attend the live entertainment at central plaza =D
I will do the same as last year. Our home turned off all the lights, sat by candle light and played board games!
Have a quiet night at home by the fire, without the lights or electricity on.
I will turn off the lights, unplug the heater, and warm up with some hot choco.
Candle light with left over cold pizza!
Turning off all electronics and consuming as little as possible.
Unplugging everything in my apartment except for my fridge and playing environmentally themed songs non-stop on my acoustic guitar. Set list will include Big Yellow Taxi and Heal the World. Therefore, replacing greenhouse gas emissions with noise pollution.
We will read bedtime stories by hand-crank-powered flashlight, then my husband and I will take a little nap, too, or star-gaze if it’s a clear night.
I’ll unplug all the electric stuff in my apartment and go for a walk along the beach.
Turn off the lights and take a nap!
We’ll be celebrating our daughter’s birthday with a candlelit meal. Family and friends, good food, presents and cake.
I’m usually power smart but if I’m home that hour then I’ll have a black out and take a nap.
I will be running outside during this time and ensure that I have unplugged the unused electronics in my house prior to setting out for this workout
8:30 pm: Reading my daughter a bedtime story by scented candlelight…character voices and all.
8:50 pm: Moving said candle to writing desk and start writing…no laptop…just a nice pen and my Moleskine as my wife reads by candlelight in the next room.*
*Odds are I’ll be sipping a glass of red wine during this process.
I’ll be playing board games by candlelight.
I’ll have a potluck with my friends by candlelight ^^ !
I will just sit in the dark for an hour and not utter a word..hooooo
I participated with my family in this celebration with no lights it was a lot of fun!
