Canada’s only national South Asian music festival, the RBC desiFest is coming to the Plaza of Nations this Saturday. This free event aims to “help instill a sense of civic and national pride and strengthen foundations for a homegrown star structure by showcasing the wealth of Canadian talent in our communities and unearthing and celebrating our rich cultural histories.”
The performers are all home-grown talents from across the country who have traveled with the Festival from Montreal over to the Stampede in Calgary, and finally Vancouver. Local artists such as Desi Detour, Juggy Jag and Bombay Sapphire are also set to perform. Aside from the dozens of musical acts on the mainstage, there will also be food vendors (anything from corn on the cob to fish and chips) and booths with fashions, goods, and body art from Vancouver Henna.
The festival runs from 12:00pm until 8:00pm this Saturday, July 25th and I have the opportunity to give away two VIP backstage passes to one of my readers. The winner will receive the official RBC desiFEST CD along with VIP backstage passes to join headlining artists Parichay, Blitzkrieg, and Roach right before they take the stage.
With the sun shining it seems as though there are more festivals in Vancouver this year than ever before, which is definitely a good thing. Consider stopping by this event on Saturday, which conveniently wraps up just in time for your wander down to English Bay and catch the fireworks.
