Link Fest: Free Vancouver Events July 2009

Since I was out of town last week and I’ll also be heading out to New York on Monday, I won’t be here for some very cool local (and FREE) events. Luckily I can list them all here so that you don’t have to miss out as well.

  • International Paralympic Day is July 9th and they’ll have activities planned throughout the day including rooftop wheelchair basketball games.
  • On Sunday July 12th from 11:00am until 1:00pm head out into one of many community gardens around the city for a free guided tour.
  • Colin James is doing a free concert with the CBC on July 15th. You simply need to RSVP to gain access ([email protected]).
  • Rockin’ in the Park takes place in Coal Harbour July 11th. This free family event features entertainment, food, crafts, and the obligatory bouncy castle.
  • The Vancouver Public Library hosts a free Just for Teens series and this month one of their events is the Harry. Potter. Dance. Party! at the main branch from 6:00pm – 9:00pm Friday July 10th.
  • The Outdoor Movie Spectacular returns to Vancouver with free film screenings from White Rock West Beach to Killarny Park. This massive series happens in several cities across Metro Vancouver from July 9th until July 21st. A full listing is available on the Fresh Air Cinemas Facebook page.
  • Surrey’s Fusion Festival happens July 18-19th at Holland Park.
  • The Vancouver Folk Music Festival is not free, however I have a ticket to give away to a reader (+ guest). Leave a comment on the contest post or include it in a Twitter update to enter.
  • Downtown Vancouver’s free fireworks spectacular, the Celebration of Light, (that was in danger earlier this year) is back again with a kick-off performance by Canada July 22nd.
  • RBC desiFEST is coming Saturday, July 25 at the Plaza of Nations from 12:00pm – 8:00pm.
  • Finally, July is Parks Month in Vancouver and enjoying the many community gardens, parks, and beaches our city has to offer is probably the best free activity that I can recommend. If you need any ideas or inspiration, check out my Metro Vancouver Park Series that includes guest entries by some of the area’s top bloggers and park connoisseurs.
