Thursday Link Fest: Too Excited to Wear Pants

Comments 3 by Rebecca Bollwitt

On the cover of the 24 Hours this morning there are a few Canucks fans sporting the latest trend in female fan fashion: what appears to be a jersey, no pants (maybe booty shorts or hidden skirt) and stiletto heels.

Not to pick on these enthusiast ladies at all (we’re all super excited for our team) and I’m all for men and women loving the game and showing their support. I find a good fan to simply be one who has passion for their team year-round regardless of what they’re wearing (although I have had some issues with certain fan attire in the past).

Since we’re all in a Canuck mood, I’ll kick off today’s link fest with a shout out to my podcast co-hosts who are all up to neat things for the playoffs

  • DaveO from the Canucks Outsider is doing a series of live episodes during games, although we’ll have to wait now until the Canucks are back in action.
  • JJ from the Canucks Hockey Blog has enlisted Richard Loat as a partner do provide content and help run the site.
  • Alanah from Canucks and Beyond is just awesome. All the time.

  • There is also a campaign out there to raise funds to benefit a third world community throughout the Canucks playoff run – check out GoatCanucksGoat for information.
  • and making news around Metro Vancouver…

  • News1130 has a web poll asking if the City’s idea of banning bottled water sales at City-run events is a good idea (cast your vote on their main page).
  • The City of Burnaby needs your help tracking down some tree poachers [CKNW]
  • Paul Hillsdon defends Ray Lam, the NDP candidate that recently backed down due to the release of “racey” Facebook photos.
  • Jeans Day is April 30th, purchase your pin for $5 from Save-On-Foods to support the BC Children’s Hospital.

  • I have also just done the draw for my Red Cross Red Carpet Soiree Contest. I ran it on my site as well as on Twitter and you just needed to leave a comment on the post or re-tweet using @RedCarpetSoiree. I then embedded the Twitter stream and we had 25 comments and about 40 Twitter entries. The winner (thanks the draw by is… Lesley Chang who entered via Twitter – congrats and I’ll see you at the event on May 6th.

What your commentary missed was the inclusion of upside-down hockey socks as leg warmers…

A few years back when the dress/leg warmers/stilettos trend started, I thought it was a bit ridiculous. Now seeing fans wearing junior size hockey socks – $14 at Mainland Athltics – with jerseys and heels, you can see why this sexy trend is taking off!
