Today might be the last day of Spring Break but it’s also the first official day of spring, which means there’s much to look forward to around town in the coming weeks. With that in mind, this morning’s link fest is a quick event round up of events, all of which have been sent in by readers.
Sonic Boom kicked off last night and will run until March 22nd at The Western Front (303 East 8th Ave). This is an annual festival of new music by BC composers and is regarded as “one of Canada’s most important showcases for new work, including pieces by both mature and emerging composers, all performed by top-quality ensembles and soloists.”
On Tuesday March 24th we’ll be attending Sport BC’s Athlete of the Year Awards, honoring the best and most inspiring athletes in our province.
Vancouver Fashion Week is coming up, March 24th to 29th at various location and will include a local designer feature, eco-friendly design, as well as an international showcase.
Pano from TrainHarder.com is participating in Cyclebetes, a 24-hour stationary bike challenge in order to raise funds for the Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation.
On April 1st you’ll be able to purchase your buttons and lapel pins for this year’s Jeans Day. Taking place April 30th, Jeans Day supports the BC Childrens Hospital and on top of wearing your dashing denim you can also stop by one of the many BBQ locations. On The Rise is an art collective in South Granville that gives emerging local artists a collaborative space in which to show their works. On April 2nd, while opening an exhibit of ZoÃ« Pawlak’s work, they will also host their first-ever Art Market, “a night for collectors looking for art and singles looking for love”.
Starting April 21st Langara College is hosting grad shows for their Display+Design program, which covers everything from graphic, interior, 3D, display design, lighting, floral, packaging, and event design. The shows will run weekdays from 10:00am until 4:00pm up until May 1st.
Green Thumb Theatre‘s Big Scene reception will celebrate Patrick McDonald’s 20 years of artistic excellence on April 23rd at Heritage Hall on Main Street.
World Theatre Day is March 27th and there will be several events taking place as of March 23rd such as panel discussions, parties, backstage tours and open mic nights.
