Friday Link Fest: Birthday Edition

Comments 5 by Rebecca Bollwitt

Happy New Year from IowaI woke up to a crisp blanket of snow on the ground this morning although no matter how much I want to trudge down to the park, I must realize that it is about -10C outside. Enjoying my third cup of coffee after an amazing meal of chorizo and eggs prepared by my mother-in-law, I offer to you a Link Fest: Birthday Edition.

  • Today is the last day of early-bird ticket pricing for WordCamp Whistler. We’ve also just announced a few more sponsors and the fantastic socials that are lined up.
  • Northern Voice registration is also open and spots are filling up fast. I’ll be there as a panelist, covering a few topics, and as always, it’s pretty much the social media event of the year so be sure to attend if you can.
  • Four rescued from Grouse Mountain will pay for their disobedience during these dangerous times on local mountains. [North Shore Search and Rescue]
  • First people were being evicted in the West End and now the kitties have to go. [West End Residents Association] [via Beyond Robson]
  • Breakfast with Jeff Pulver will be taking place at Enigma Restaurant, 4397 10th Avenue West @ 9:00am this Sunday. [Facebook Event]
  • Fearless City‘s Phones for Fearless campaign is ongoing along with many of the other initiatives that are helping out their community.
  • The monthly Net Tuesday meetup is looking for speakers.
  • We fly back to Vancouver tomorrow and although I cannot wait to be home, I already have about 5 business meetings, gigs, and interviews lined up so we’ll pretty much hit the ground running. Here’s hoping snow doesn’t hamper our travel plans and that O’Hare will treat our luggage nicely (and it won’t get sucked into a vortex as usual).

Happy Birthday Miss604! I hope you have a good one 🙂

As for the Grouse Mountain incident… the four rescued don’t actually have to pay for rescue (The North Shore Search and Rescue have never and likely will never charge for rescue). But Grouse Mountain has said (in the comments on that link) that they will charge the four for “labour and transport” but NSR has asked them instead of donate to charity.

You can read all about it in the comments on that post. An interesting situation for sure.

Hope you had a great birthday and that cake looked yummy.

Hope your trip though O’Hare is peaceful, each time I go though O’Hare, I seem to walk though the whole airport as they keep changing their minds on which flights should go to what gate. Have a safe trip home
