Wednesday Link Fest: Best of 604 Eve Play Along

Comments 5 by Rebecca Bollwitt

Really, who would have thought my little idea for a people’s choice award in Metro Vancouver would have taken off as much as it has. There have been almost 5,000 votes so far and 200 people RSVP’d for the Best of 604 awards event tomorrow night. Admission is by (monetary) donation to the Food Bank and we have some great raffle prizes up for grabs.

As I need to be in about three places at once today, I’m going to publish this link fest even though I realize many of my posts lately have contained bullet points. I promise to have a long ranty narrative up once all this is over.

  • The DeSmogBlog just won 3rd in the a Canadian Blog Awards, congrats!
  • In case you were saddened by the closure of Mugs and Jugs in New Westminster, fear not as it has moved in to the Turf Hotel on King George Highway at the South end of the Patullo. It’s true, we drove by it last night.
  • Get on the ‘f list’ to avoid bad gifting.
  • Will Sundin be in Vancouver by the end of the weekend?
  • Vancouver’s olympic line streetcar.
  • Caroline MacGillivray organizes Beauty Night in the Downtown Eastside, coming up this Monday.
  • Finally, after arriving home Tuesday evening after taking the day off, I snuggled on the couch with my husband to do some work. We each had our own Iowa Hawkeyes blankets wrapped around us with our laptops cranking out project after project while the fake fireplace TV channel crackled in the background.

Once I caught up on emails, put finishing touches on some projects, and took Twitter for a spin I decided to look up some music online. I was in the mood for something that was fun, festive, and happy – and to me that could be anything really.

The Postal Service – Such Great Heights

This song played at our wedding, at the end of the ceremony. I know some people out there who customize the music at their wedding and it would be fun to hear about others who have done so as well.

At our wedding, we had Debussy’s Arabesque, which kicks the crud out of Pachabel’s Canon any day. And our ‘song’ is ‘Destiny’ by Zero 7, which was on rotation while we were dating.

Today is also International Human Rights Day … and only like the biggest day of the month… 60th Anniversary of a little thing called the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 🙂

Thank you so much for including the Beauty Night link!!! I just caught the link from Raul’s blog. I would love to have you two come by – although I may put you to work as we can always use an extra pair of hands!
